| Our son, Jonah was diagnosed with PDD-NOS when he was 2 ½ years old. By the time he turned 4, we realized that we weren't seeing enough improvements in his communication and behavior with the therapy he had. We knew we needed something that was tailored to his specific needs and development. We were very fortunate to find Kate Andersen of Autism Journeys. After meeting with her, we were impressed with her vast knowledge and experience within the Autism Community and were confident that she could provide the right therapy for our son. After working with Kate for a few weeks, Jonah began to show great improvements in communication and behavior that even our friends and family noticed. Kate taught my husband and I how to interact and work with our son so that we could help bring out his full potential, and Jonah continues to improve everyday and astound us all! - Ember Bailey, mother of an amazing autistic child | | Kate Andersen and Autism Journeys have truly changed our approach to our Asperger's child. We have been given practical skills and great resources to deal with the day-to-day issues in his life. There is no challenge too big, small, or difficult, that they won't take on. Autism Journeys is a great advocate for us in working with his school in creating an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and the day-to-day challenges he encounters in the classroom and playground settings. Kate and her team often can educate the school on the laws and techniques required to accommodate a special needs child. The thing we are most impressed with, though, is their love for our child. They TRULY CARE about him and his success. It is wonderful to have someone on our side through our family’s journey through autism. We don't feel like we are battling this alone anymore. - Liz and Bill Sackewitz | | It was with great excitement and enthusiasm that we discovered what may be achieved in private therapy for our son, Noah, in contacting Autism Journey's. Because, you see, our `little man' was born down syndrome 4 ½ years ago. When a parent finds out that, not only are you expecting a new person into your lives, but a `special needs' baby, you are consumed with so many conflicting emotions. We remember going through all the initial emotions: happiness, ambivalence, and yes, sadness (at hearing that our new baby would be born Trisomy 21, or Down syndrome and not so-called `normal'). The sadness lasted about `two minutes'..then we realized that this was an opportunity to raise and nurture an exceptional human being. Of course we had our fears that, would we be able to raise him as normally as our grown daughters? And the answer so far to that question has been, yes! We have been very blessed to have Noah in our lives--he is an absolute delight! But, as with any children, we also recognized that there would come times when we needed the help, expertise and advice that would help us help him achieve success in his life from outside professionals. Noah has had different therapies since he was born and all were of benefit to him. In the last year however, we felt that he needed `more' to get him ready to start kindergarten with his class & to help modify and develop behaviors, along with developing his speech/language. We learned about Autism Journey's and Kate Andersen's work from friends and a colleague who suggested that they may be able to provide specifically what we were looking for to help Noah progress. We are very happy to say that even though it's only been about a month & a half into Noah's Individual Development Plan (IDP), we started seeing such positive results immediately. Noah's Team, (made up of his cognitive, occupational, and speech language therapists), put together an individualized development plan to set goals for him (& us!). Where we had been really worried and stressed out about `how is he going to learn this or that behavior' and `how can we help him with his communication skills'..'will he be ready for school' (hopefully mainstream)??? All of these concerns have now been put to ease, since beginning Noah's sessions with his team. What we really think is KEY, is that we, & Noah's therapists, are all on the same page. We all know what the expectations are going to be for each goal, and how we will work together to attain them. There is no better feeling than watching your child grow and succeed. Autism Journey's is helping us experience that! - Roberta and Rick Wilson | | Kate Anderson and her qualified staff have made all the difference in my son's progress. We are impressed with the level of dedication and expertise each staff member brings to the table. The highly educated and knowledgeable team working with Greyson is committed to excellence, ongoing training and best practices. We know that Greyson's therapy is individually and ideally suited to him and his family's needs. It is with firm conviction and powerful results that we highly recommend Autism Journeys as the consulting firm of choice. -Thanks again, Diana | Almost two years ago, my husband and I received the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder for our daughter. We were so overwhelmed with grief and confusion as to how this all happened. We didn't know what this meant, what we could expect as far as functionality and potential for our daughter. The diagnosis was done in Colorado, but my family and I moved to Utah three days later. Before we left, my father (who lives here in Utah) scoured the Internet looking for leads for someone who could help my daughter. He found a reference site and that led him to Kate Andersen and Autism Journeys. We called her immediately and set something up for a couple weeks after we came to Utah. It was so wonderful to meet her and talk to her because she was able to give us some things we desperately needed. Kate gave us both direction and hope. I know parents who have been through something like this will understand how important this is. We dove right into therapy and saw results in just a few weeks. Over the next 18 months, we immersed our daughter in therapy, speech, O.T., and preschool. There were times of great progress, and some times of slow change or even regression, but the overall change was remarkable, even miraculous. When therapy began, our daughter had only one word labels, no eye contact, no social skills, couldn't point or engage in basic communication, and she wasn't potty trained. Here we are almost two years later and she goes to regular preschool with no shadow, she has complete 6-8+ word sentences with use of pronouns, she continually engages in social interaction, pretend play, she is fully potty trained, has wonderful eye contact, and is a happy, well adjusted kid. While we still have a journey ahead of us, I am filled with joy and gratitude for the life Kate, Dawn (speech), Morgan and Autism Journeys has given us back.
